It would be more convenient to eliminate levels and create multiple styles arbitrarily and apply them where necessary.

Like the "OpenLp" program does.

I would be intrested in know what you find to be too complicated? Personally I like the VideoPsalms method. I only quickly tested OpenLp for a few hours probably 10 years ago at this point so I'm not sure what the workflow was like over there but I would like to hear
